The buzz about The Game Awards was significant, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This distinction suggests that the team is likely crafting a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it pioneered the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, player agency, and flexible progression—traits that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of specialized paths only possible by choosing a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also notoriously flexible, enabling players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be approached in multiple ways, frequently in lateral fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can get ready for another adventure in this legendary franchise.
